Lauren Roche

(b. Santa Rosa, CA 1983) Roche is a self-taught artist living in Minneapolis, MN. Her idiosyncratic, almost naïve aesthetic is rooted in the elusive territories of the imagination and memory, fantasy and fact. Often autobiographical, Roche’s drawings are complex works where female nudes, and exotic horses, cats and dogs live harmoniously and even share the same stripes, spots, gestures and actions.

An avid reader, Roche also cites as influential the often, magical realism novels of Haruki Murakami (Kafka on the Shore) and the experimental work of novelist and punk poet Kathy Acker. Roche was awarded the Jerome Foundation Visual Arts Fellowship in 2012-2013.
