Alec Soth

Photographer, Alec Soth, was born in Minneapolis, MN and is best known for photographing the Midwestern United States. Soth, who was shy during childhood and adolescence, was driven to start photographing people after being influenced by the work of portrait photographer Diane Arbus. He studied at the Sarah Lawrence College, New York and has received several awards and grants, such as the McKnight Photography Fellowship, the Minnesota State Arts Board Artist Initiative Grant, a Jerome Fellowship, and a Bush Artist Fellowship.
